After a while, we really got beaten down by corporate expectations, and as a result, I think we all just wanted to buck against that. It was like a creative straitjacket. Because when you’re signed to a record label, you have to run all your music through them, and they decide whether they will release it or not. After a while, you just want to scream, and hand them some really obscure, weird, obtuse, unmarketable music, but then of course they’d never release it. I think taking a hiatus was our reaction against that. We wanted to free ourselves of that straitjacket. Then, of course, years passed, and you start to feel creative again, and get excited about the notion of getting into a room with people you love, and making music.

Colorado and Utah Shows POSTPONED

We regretfully must postpone more shows this week due to a family emergency overseas resulting in the temporary departure of a band member.

We are painfully aware of the disappointment this must be causing our fans. We feel terribly about it, but unfortunately it’s completely unavoidable.

The newly postponed shows include April 24th in Aspen, CO at Belly Up, April 25th in Denver, CO at the Ogden Theater and Friday, April 27th in Salt Lake City, UT at In The Venue.

We WILL reschedule these dates so please stay tuned for an announcement of the make up dates in the near future.

We are deeply saddened to announce that we have been forced to postpone our show in Houston tonight.

Duke has had to fly home due to a family medical emergency.

PLEASE NOTE THAT WE WILL STILL BE APPEARING AT WATERLOO RECORDS TOMORROW IN AUSTIN TX, APRIL 21ST FOR OUR INSTORE SIGNING TO CELEBRATE RECORD STORE DAY. DUKE HOWEVER WILL NOT BE IN ATTENDANCE.

AND WE WILL STILL BE PERFORMING LIVE AT EDGEFEST IN DALLAS SUNDAY APRIL 22.

We are devastated at having to take such drastic steps but unfortunately we have no choice.
We understand that you will all be horribly disappointed.
We rush to assure you that the dates will be rescheduled as soon as is humanly possible.
We are true to our word and WILL NOT let you down.
We will play these shows at a later date and your tickets will continue to be valid until they have been rescheduled.

Record Store Day!

To celebrate Record Store Day 2012, this Saturday 4/21 we are releasing a special 7” vinyl single of “Blood for Poppies” and doing a personal in-store signing at Waterloo Records in Austin, TX!

The single is a Limited Edition White Vinyl 7” featuring “Blood For Poppies” and “Blood For Poppies (Heads Down Here We Come Butch Vig Remix)” and will be available at many participating stores around the country only on Saturday, 4/21.

BAND TO PERFORM AT KROQ WEENIE ROAST ON MAY 5TH

LOS ANGELES, CA - April 2, 2012 - Garbage today announced that the music video for the group’s new single “Blood For Poppies” will premiere tomorrow, April 3^rd on AOL Music. “Blood For Poppies” is the first single from the band’s highly anticipated album Not Your Kind Of People, which is due out on May 15^th on the band’s own STUNVOLUME record label.

On April 3^rd at 1:00pm PST, Garbage will participate in a live Ustream chat where the band will answer questions from fans about the video and forthcoming new album, followed by the world premiere of the video live from Los Angeles.

The “Blood For Poppies” music video was shot in Los Angeles and directed by renowned fashion photographer and filmmaker Matt Irwin and inspired by visual artists like Magritte, Maya Deren, Luis Brunel and Francesca Woodman. “We piled into a transit van with the ridiculously talented team of Matt Irwin and Aaron Brown and hopped around little pockets of Los Angeles creating a gorgeous surrealist dream. We ate ice cream sandwiches in the sunshine and laughed a lot. I didn’t want the shoot to end,” said the band’s Shirley Manson.

Not Your Kind Of People will be released in both a standard and a deluxe configuration. Fans can preorder either version here: Standard Edition Preorder and Deluxe Edition Preorder (featuring four additional tracks). On April 21st for Record Store Day, Garbage will release “Blood For Poppies” on a limited edition, white vinyl 7-inch that will feature the track and an exclusive remix by drummer Butch Vig.

Garbage will hit the road this spring in support of the album by performing several headlining shows in the United States as well as various festivals throughout Europe with more dates to be announced over the coming weeks. In addition, the group will perform at the recently announced KROQ Weenie Roast on May 5^th in Los Angeles. Full list of dates can be found below.
